Regular testing of water samples has shown that common bacteria do not thrive in the lagoon.
Geothermal and borehole water in Iceland often contains a certain amount of sulphur, and in this area the sulphur content is higher than normal. You should, therefore, remove any copper or silver jewellery before bathing as this could result in the metal becoming discoloured or damaged.
Sulphur itself, however, is considered beneficial for patients with asthma and other respiratory diseases and many of the trace elements in the water are considered beneficial for skin conditions.
